For over 30 years, Touchstone Theatre’s professional ensemble of resident theatre artists have been committed to a mission of creating, touring, presenting and performing high quality original theatrical work at our home in the historic south side district of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Touchstone’s ArtsTouch educators are skilled at creating custom residencies, tailored to the needs of your students or classroom. Programs include original theatrical productions, literary adaptations of classic or contemporary texts, and short and long-term workshops on a variety of topics.
I. Residencies (5 or more sessions)
~ Building Bridges: Program uses theatre and creative drama to facilitate cultural competency, self-awareness, and communication among children and teens with emotional, social & behavioral difficulties. Skills learned in this residency include more effective communication, enriched problem solving and decision-making skills, and a stronger sense of group/community.
~ Touchstone Teen Ensemble: Touchstone teaching artists introduce teens 13-19 years old to the exciting art of theatre performance, playwriting and the process of creating original theatre as an “ensemble”. The Teen Ensemble experience builds student confidence, leadership, communication skills, and promotes positive peer relationships through creative collaboration.
~ Rehearsal & Performance: In partnership with school personnel, Touchstone Theatre artists will cast, design and direct an original or adapted work of theatre featuring student (and sometimes staff!) performers. Participants learn theatre fundamentals of vocal, physical and text-based performance, while developing skills of confidence, listening and working with others towards a final public performance.
II. Short Courses (1-4 sessions)
~ Theatre Games (Pre K-12): Theatre games cultivate the imagination while teaching important life skills of communication, collaboration, listening, and responding. Games and exercises teach characterization, improvisation, using the imagination, vocal skills, storytelling and can be tailored to teacher and classroom goals.
~ Mime and Pantomime: Through Pantomime training, young theatre artists learn about physical storytelling, as well as skills like listening, communicating, and characterization – skills that can build a well-rounded performer and citizen.
